Principal- Brian Fowler

Howdy, Bulldogs!

My name is Brian Fowler, and I am honored to serve as the principal of Iola Secondary School. As a proud Fighting Texas Aggie (Class of 2001 and 2007), I bring a passion for education, a heart for service, and a vision rooted in community, character, and excellence. My academic journey includes a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Sport Management from Texas A&M University. I'm currently working toward my Doctorate in Education from Texas A&M, where my research focuses on the intrinsic and extrinsic factors that impact teacher satisfaction, well-being, and retention in rural schools like ours.

A Heart for Students, A Vision for Excellence

Working with young people is my greatest joy. I truly love being present for all our students, whether it's in the classroom, cheering them on at games, celebrating their achievements, or simply sharing a laugh in the hallway. My days are energized by their unique personalities, ambitions, and the relationships we build together.

Every student deserves a school experience where they feel safe, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential and thrive. That’s why I’m committed to making Iola Secondary School a place students want to come every day, where they are taught by teachers who love being here, and where excellence is pursued in academics, the arts, athletics, and beyond.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe teaching and learning are among the most powerful forces for growth in our world. Education should occur in an environment where students are challenged, supported, and inspired, where character development matters just as much as the curriculum. I strive to foster meaningful connections with each student and staff member because real growth happens when people feel seen, heard, and valued.

Learning should be active and engaging. I hold to the philosophy that real understanding comes not just from hearing or seeing, but from doing. As the Chinese proverb says, “Tell me, I forget. Show me, I remember. Involve me, I understand.”

Professional Journey

Before entering education, I worked with ABC Sports, ESPN, and several collegiate athletic departments, including Texas A&M, the University of Maryland, TCU, and SMU. While that part of my career was exciting, my true calling was found in teaching, coaching, and school leadership.

Over the past decade, I’ve taught math, science, and English. I’ve coached multiple sports and served in various administrative roles, including principal and assistant principal. I’ve worked in schools of all sizes, from large to small, and in both urban and rural settings. Each experience has shaped my leadership with a broader perspective and deeper purpose.

A Family Man and Lifelong Learner

Outside of school, you’ll find me spending quality time with my incredible wife and our four exceptional children. We stay busy with sports, school events, and lots of love and laughter. My family is my foundation, and they remind me every day why relationships matter most.

I am grateful to lead Iola Secondary School and to serve this incredible community. It’s going to be another great year for our students, and I can’t wait to celebrate every success with you, from the classroom to the field and everywhere in between.

Go Bulldogs!
